How to get an Algonquin campsite when the corridor is booked
Algonquin offers car camping along Highway 60, on the north side of the park, and at Achray on the east side. Choose a campground that fits your equipment and trip before searching for dates.
Ontario Parks opens campsite reservations five months before arrival at 7 a.m. Eastern. If your dates are full, watch for matching openings and keep a suitable backup plan.
Why Algonquin Provincial Park sells out
Ontario Parks says busy parks can fill during summer and recommends preparing alternatives. A different campground or a stay with dates you can actually use gives you more options to check.

Cancellations and returned openings
Ontario Parks does not allow a reservation to be changed or cancelled more than four months before arrival. A booking made at the five-month release is initially locked. Crossing the four-month boundary allows changes; it does not promise a wave of cancellations.
We have not measured an Algonquin cancellation peak or a best hour to check. Start watching once you know your dates and keep checking as your trip approaches. New availability can have more than one cause, and another camper may book an opening before you reach it.

- Prepare your campground shortlist before the five-month release at 7 a.m. Eastern. Check the official rules for operating dates and month-end exceptions.
- If your dates sell out, use Ontario Parks' Notify Me feature or create an OpenCampsite alert for a supported campground. Choose email, text, or both, and verify each destination you use.
- Include other Algonquin campgrounds only if their location, services, and available dates fit your trip. Confirm that OpenCampsite supports the exact camping area you want to watch.
- Try a different trip length or arrival date if your plans allow it. Availability for one night does not guarantee a site for your whole stay.
- After an alert, confirm your dates and equipment on the official Ontario Parks reservation site and complete the booking there. Neither notification holds a campsite.

How far in advance can I book an Algonquin campsite?
Five months before arrival at 7 a.m. Eastern, subject to operating dates and park rules. Check the official reservation rules for month-end exceptions before planning your release-day search.
What does Ontario Parks' four-month cancellation restriction mean?
Reservations cannot be changed or cancelled more than four months before arrival. This sets the earliest point at which a five-month booking can be changed; it does not establish a cancellation peak or guarantee that a campsite will become available.
Does Ontario Parks notify me when a site frees up?
Look for Notify Me in the official campsite search to get availability notifications matching your search. OpenCampsite is another option for supported campgrounds, with email or text per alert and optional browser notifications. Neither service holds or books a campsite.
Is the Algonquin alert free?
You can start with free beta access for three trips at a time, up to six campgrounds each, no card required. We notify you after a check detects a matching opening, and you book the site yourself on the Ontario Parks reservation system. Paid plans for faster checks or more trips are planned for after the beta.
