How We Protect Visitor Information
We use administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to keep your personal information secure. Examples include production access controls, encrypted transmission via HTTPS, managed authentication, and service monitoring. We regularly review our security posture, but no method of storage or transmission over the internet is 100% secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Cookies and Tracking Technologies
OpenCampsite uses cookies, local storage, and similar technologies to remember preferences, authenticate sessions, and protect the service. Our usage analytics is cookieless and sets nothing on your device. We do not use advertising cookies in the launch beta.
You can configure your browser to warn you each time a cookie is being sent or disable cookies entirely. Disabling cookies may limit certain features, but you will still be able to browse essential portions of the site.
Third-Party Disclosure
We do not sell personal information. We share information with vendors that provide hosting, database, authentication, email delivery, analytics, and error monitoring needed to operate OpenCampsite. We may also disclose information to comply with applicable law, enforce site policies, or protect rights, property, or safety.
Third-Party Links
Our Services may include links to third-party products or services. These sites maintain independent privacy policies, so we are not responsible for their content or activities. We welcome feedback if any linked site raises privacy concerns.
Analytics
OpenCampsite uses a self-hosted, cookieless analytics system (Umami) to understand page visits, referring pages, and basic browser and device patterns. Analytics requests go to our own infrastructure only: no analytics data is shared with Google, Meta, or any other advertising or analytics company, no cookies are set, and no cross-site profile is built. Visitor counts rely on a short-lived anonymized identifier that cannot be traced back to you.
Analytics does not load at all when your browser sends a Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal, and blocking the script has no effect on site functionality.
California Online Privacy Protection Act (CalOPPA)
- Users can visit opencampsite.com anonymously.
- We link to this Privacy Policy from our homepage and other prominent pages.
- The link includes the word “Privacy” and is easy to find.
- We will notify users of any material changes on this page.
- Registered users can view and update certain personal information within their accounts.
Do Not Track & Behavioral Tracking
When your browser sends Do Not Track as enabled or sends a Global Privacy Control signal, OpenCampsite does not load its analytics script. Those signals do not disable storage needed for preferences, authentication, security, or core service operation.
Children's Privacy (COPPA)
We do not knowingly market to or collect personal information from children under 13 years of age. If you believe we have inadvertently received such information, please contact us so we can delete it promptly.
Fair Information Practices
If a data incident requires notice, we will notify affected users as required by applicable law and provide available information about protective steps.
Email Choices
We use your email address for requested alert confirmations, availability updates, account and service messages, and support replies. Availability emails include a link to disable the related alert. You can also ask us to stop an alert by contacting support@opencampsite.com.
Your Choices & Access Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to request access to, correction of, or deletion of the personal information we maintain about you. You can also request a copy of your data, object to certain processing, or withdraw consent where processing is based on consent. Submit requests by emailing support@opencampsite.com, and we will respond consistent with applicable law.
GDPR Data Protection Rights
If you are located in the European Union or European Economic Area, you have the following rights with respect to your Personal Data, subject to certain limitations:
- The right to access, update, or delete the information we hold about you.
- The right to rectification of inaccurate or incomplete information.
- The right to object to our processing of your Personal Data.
- The right to request that we restrict the processing of your personal information.
- The right to data portability in a structured, commonly used, machine-readable format.
- The right to withdraw consent at any time where processing relies on your consent.
We may ask you to verify your identity before responding to such requests. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
Retention of Data
We retain Personal Data for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes outlined in this policy, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce agreements. Usage Data is typically retained for a shorter period unless needed to improve functionality, enhance security, or comply with legal requirements.
Transfer of Data
Your information, including Personal Data, may be transferred to and maintained on servers located outside of your state, province, country, or other governmental jurisdiction where data protection laws may differ. By using the Services, you agree that we may transfer data to the United States and process it there, subject to safeguards designed to protect your information.
Disclosure of Data
We may disclose personal information if required to do so by law, in response to valid requests by public authorities, or when we believe disclosure is necessary to protect our rights, property, or safety, or that of our users or others. We may also disclose information in connection with a merger, acquisition, or asset sale, in which case you will receive notice and an opportunity to opt out of the transfer if permitted by law.
Service Providers
We may employ third-party companies and individuals to facilitate our Services, provide services on our behalf, perform Service-related functions, or assist us in analyzing how our Services are used. These third parties have access to Personal Data only to perform these tasks on our behalf and are obligated not to disclose or use it for any other purpose.
Payments
OpenCampsite is free during the launch beta and does not collect payment-card details for beta alerts. We will update this policy before collecting payment information for a paid service.
Links to Other Sites
Our Services may contain links to other sites that are not operated by us. If you click a third-party link, you will be directed to that site. We strongly advise you to review the privacy policy of every site you visit. We have no control over and assume no responsibility for the content, privacy policies, or practices of any third-party sites or services.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes to our practices or for other operational, legal, or regulatory reasons. If we make material changes, we will post the revised policy on this page with an updated “Last updated” date and, when appropriate, provide additional notice.
