Why North Pines Campground made this collection
This page describes a demonstrably competitive Yosemite facility and its official 2026 process. It does not assume that the lottery or season dates will repeat in 2027.
For 2026, the National Park Service offered North Pines reservations through a one-time early-access lottery, with remaining sites moving to normal on-sale dates.
The official facility page says regular releases use Yosemite's five-month block schedule and warns that remaining campsites typically sell out within minutes.
When reservations open
Treat the lottery and the general on-sale as separate chances. For 2026, unused lottery inventory returned to the normal five-month block releases on the 15th at 7 am Pacific Time.
The 2027 North Pines process had not been announced when this guide was reviewed. Check the NPS lottery page and the Recreation.gov facility notice before planning around a lottery or a release day.
Where a second chance can come from
If the lottery route is unavailable or unsuccessful, move to the official general calendar instead of assuming the season is closed. Later reservation changes can also return individual nights.
North Pines sites have equipment limits and some inventory can be affected by river conditions or park work. Retry with only sites your setup can use and read current alerts before committing to travel.

Lower Pines Campground
It remains in Yosemite Valley and follows the standard block release without relying on the North Pines early-access process.
Upper Pines Campground
Its larger site count creates a wider set of compatible choices while keeping the trip near the Valley shuttle and trail network.

Is North Pines always booked by lottery?
No permanent rule should be inferred. NPS described the 2026 program as a one-time early-access lottery, followed by general sales for any remaining inventory. Check the current season's NPS notice because the next process may change.
What happens to sites not booked through early access?
For the published 2026 process, remaining reservations were released on Yosemite's usual on-sale dates. Those releases used the five-month block calendar, so applicants still needed to identify the correct 15th-of-the-month sale for their arrival.
Should I wait for North Pines before booking another campground?
Not if the trip dates are fixed. A confirmed suitable site at Upper or Lower Pines protects the trip while you assess North Pines options. Review change and cancellation costs before replacing any reservation, and never hold inventory you do not intend to use.
